With the New Year just underway, I am filled with gratitude for many blessings. At the same time, my heart goes out to our neighbors in Los Angeles who are enduring the devastating fires. I hold immense respect for the first responders tirelessly working to save lives, homes, businesses, and natural spaces. If you have friends, family, or property at risk, please know that I am sending you love, support, and prayers during this challenging time.
As many of you know, I live in University Heights on a street surrounded by canyons. The recent events prompted my cul-de-sac to meet last night to discuss emergency preparedness. Our local fire marshal shared valuable resources that I found incredibly helpful and wanted to pass along to you. These resources cover:
Low-cost solutions for retrofitting your home for fire safety
Creating a personal disaster plan
Creating a wildfire action plan
Emergency supply checklist

Additionally, the fire marshal suggested that we establish a Fire Safe Council (FSC) and develop a community wildfire protection plan. These initiatives can unlock grants for home hardening, potentially reduce insurance premiums, and in some cases, help retain or regain insurability. Since University Heights does not currently have an FSC, I’ve taken the first step by signing up to learn more about starting one in our neighborhood. If this is something you’d like to explore for your area, you can read more about it here.
Please know I’m here to assist you in any way I can. Take care and be safe, Noel ♥️
